Membership RequirementsVehicles (and rideshare) can only be booked by registered members. Membership of Hour Car is available to local people who: Are resident or work in Calderdale. Eligibility changes with different insurers please contact Hour Car and enquire. Are at least 21 years of age and no older than 75 years of age (with existing Hour Car members permitted to remain up to age 77). Are full driving licence holders who have held their driving licence for a minimum of 12 months, or a minimum of 24 months for those aged 23 or 24, or a minimum of 36 months for those aged 21/22 or 76/77. Those using a Multi Purpose Vehicle must have held their licence for a minimum of 24 months and be aged between 23 and 75 years. Have no endorsements on their licence for those aged 21 to 24, and no more than one minor offence (those starting CD, MS, MW, PC, SP or TS) for drivers aged 25 to 75 years. Have had no accidents (or documentary proof of not more than one no-fault accident) in the last three years for drivers aged 23 or 24, and no more than one accident for those aged 25 and over. Those aged 21/22 or 76/77 must not have had an accident in the past 3 years. Are not professional sports people or professional entertainers. Are not in occupations connected to gambling or betting. Are not foreign servicemen based in the UK. If unemployed or self-employed must provide appropriate additional address and identity verification. A special case may be made for some people who don't meet these criteria, but a higher membership fee and insurance excess may be charged. Ages 21 and 22
Acceptance in writing of acceptance that they assume full responsibility for fees incurred and for any insurance excess incurred (£500) from damage claims. Ages 23 and 24
Acceptance in writing of acceptance that they assume full responsibility for fees incurred and for any insurance excess incurred (£450) from damage claims. Ages 25 to 75
Acceptance in writing of acceptance that they assume full responsibility for fees incurred and for any insurance excess incurred (£250) from damage claims. Ages 76 and 77
Acceptance in writing of acceptance that they assume full responsibility for fees incurred and for any insurance excess incurred (£350) from damage claims. Occupations (insurance requirements)Users who are self-employed or unemployed will be required to submit three satisfactory documents proving address and one proving identity other than their licence. The following occupations are unfortunately excluded:
Professional sportspersons / entertainers. Medical conditions and disabilitiesAny conditions disclosed by applicants should be clarified to ascertain whether the condition must be notified to DVLA and that proof of this is provided; whether any special vehicle controls must be supplied, such as automatic transmission or hand controls, or whether strong medication or restricted movement might present a high risk when driving. Otherwise if the person holds a three-year licence without other restrictions, then the policy will cover them. Vehicles (and rideshare) can only be booked by registered members.
